KKR Make Big Change, Unveil New Opening Combo for GT Game

Kolkata Knight Riders made a notable tweak to their playing XI for the crucial clash against Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026. The three-time champions are at the bottom of the points table without a win in five matches so far. The major concern is their batting lineup, who have failed to perform so far. To bring things on track, KKR handed Tim Seifert a start in place of Finn Allen. KKR openers 2026 has seen many names, with Tim Seifert becoming the latest entry to that list.

Why Finn Allen is Not Playing Today Against GT?

The decision to bring Seifert in place of Allen was confirmed at the toss, where skipper Ajinkya Rahane revealed that KKR made a one change. He also chose to bat first, aiming to put runs on the board in a must-win encounter.

The reason behind the change was Allen's constant struggle to make an impact this season and failing to convert starts and add stability at the top. Interestingly, both Allen and Seifert play as an opener for the New Zealand T20I team and made a huge impact as well. Seifert will now open with Rahane in the GT vs KKR IPL 2026 match, while Angkrish Raghuvanshi will be seen playing at the No. 3 spot.

Finn Allen's Performance in IPL 2026

Finn Allen entered the richest cricket league in the world in his best form as KKR thought that the batter would continue to bat as he had in the T20 World Cup 2026. However, the performance was far from similar as the batter featured in the first five games of the season and managed to score only 81 runs at an average of 16.20 with the highest score of 37.

Despite multiple poor outings, the team management showed faith in him and continued to provide him with opportunities. As the team was yet to register their first win of the season, KKR finally had to replace him with Tim Seifert. The management is trying all possible options in their Playing XI to find a way to it's first win of the season.
