The Punjab Kings playoff qualification scenario has become slightly complicated after Gujarat Titans thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad by 82 runs on Tuesday. GT’s dominant victory took them to the top of the IPL points table with 16 points from 12 matches, while Punjab Kings remained fourth with 13 points from 11 games.

Despite being one of the best teams in IPL over the last two years, PBKS recently suffered a three-wicket loss to Delhi Capitals, their fourth defeat on the trot, and now face massive pressure in the final phase of the league stage. However, Shreyas Iyer’s side can still qualify for the playoffs despite GT vs SRH impact on PBKS chances.

PBKS Qualification Chances After GT vs SRH

Punjab Kings currently have 13 points from 11 matches, with three league games still remaining. One of their matches ended in a no-result earlier in the season, which could complicate things later in the standings. The simplest route for Punjab Kings is to win at least two of their remaining three games, which would take them to 17 points, a tally that has historically been enough to secure IPL playoff qualification.

Even if Punjab Kings finish on 15 points with just one more win, they could still qualify depending on net run rate and results involving Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Delhi Capitals. Their current net run rate of +0.428 keeps them in a decent position compared to several mid-table rivals.

The concern for Punjab Kings is their recent form. After a brilliant start to the season, in which they won six matches, the team has now lost four consecutive games. Captain Shreyas Iyer himself admitted after the DC defeat that Punjab have not been clinical enough in crunch moments. Their remaining fixtures against stronger playoff contenders could decide whether they qualify.

SRH’s Batting Collapse Against GT Pace Attack

Sunrisers Hyderabad entered the Ahmedabad clash hoping to reclaim the top spot, but instead suffered one of their worst batting collapses of IPL 2026. Chasing 169, SRH were bowled out for just 86 in 14.5 overs as Gujarat Titans’ pace attack completely dominated proceedings.
