According to that Reddit Post, a CSK fan got to the reason behind MS Dhoni's absence from a CSK insider, which is mainly linked to a sponsorship deal of the Chennai Super Kings with Etihad Airways. According to the post, it was stated that Etihad Airways extended its Associate Sponsorship to Principal Sponsorship under one condition, which was the association of MS Dhoni with CSK. This made him be included in the squad or not take the retirement as one of the clauses states that if MS Dhoni retires or walks away, the deal will get over between CSK and Ethiad Airways, which may provide a lot of losses to the franchise, which is counted among the richest IPL teams.

The extension of Associate Sponsorship to Principal Sponsorship came after a successful period in 2024, when both parties went on to extend the sponsorship for more than 3 years, 2025 onwards. Initially, CSK management stated that MS would be out for 2-3 weeks of the IPL 2026, but it went on to increase and increase. This may also lead to more ticket sales in the name of MS Dhoni across venues, especially in Chennai.
