Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are taking on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 23 of IPL 2026 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, with skipper Rajat Patidar opting to bowl first after winning the toss.

RCB’s star pacer, Bhuvneshwar Kumar started with the new ball and looked in control early, conceding just 9 runs in his first over as LSG openers Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram tried to settle in. However, the home team suffered a huge blow in the third over when Bhuvneshwar ended up injuring himself.

Is Bhuvneshwar Kumar Ruled Out of RCB vs LSG Match?

The incident occurred in the fourth delivery of the third over when Aiden Markram smashed a fierce straight drive back at Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The pacer attempted a reflex stop and managed to get a hand to the ball, preventing extra runs, but immediately looked in discomfort after being struck on his left hand.

Initial updates from the TV broadcast confirmed it was an impact injury, with Bhuvneshwar later seen in the dugout applying an ice pack to the affected area. Currently, there are no updates regarding his availability for the rest of the game. However, by the look of it, Bhuvneshwar Kumar injury didn't look serious enough to rule him out of the RCB vs LSG IPL 2026 match.

Bhuvneshwar is arguably one of the best bowlers in IPL history and has been playing the league for some years now. Royal Challengers Bengaluru would be hoping that Bhuvneshwar remains fit throughout the season as he is their premier bowler with the new ball as well as the death.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar Comes Out to Bowl Again

Despite injuring his hand in his second over of the match, the veteran Indian pacer came out to bowl again to provide a great finish to the team in the death overs. Bhuvneshwar bowled his third over in the 17th over of the innings and conceded only six runs while picking up a crucial wicket of LSG skipper Rishabh Pant, who was also injured and came out to bat again after getting retired hurt.

The right-arm pacer didn't stop there and finished his full four-over quota by bowling the penultimate over of the first innings. Again, Bhuvneshwar proved why he is second on the list of most wickets in IPL, by picking up two back-to-back wickets while conceding only four runs in the over. He eventually finished with the stunning figures of 3/27 in four overs, helping his team restrict LSG to just 146 runs.
