When Will Gautam Gambhir Be Free to Join Rajasthan Royals? India Coach Tenure Explained

In the recent development around the Indian Premier League (IPL), there have been talks about new ownership of a couple of IPL franchises. The ownership of the first-time IPL Champions, Rajasthan Royals, is currently on the table where majority of the team's stakes are going to be transferred to the new owner.

As the ownership deal is underway, one of the new owners has proposed an offer to the Indian Men's Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir, with three roles to him which includes two-to-three per cent stake of the team. It also includes the roles of CEO and mentor which goes hand-in-hand with Gambhir past work experience in the IPL as well as RR's legacy of recruiting Indian legends in the coaching setup.

When Gautam Gambhir Can Take Over Rajasthan Royals?

The three-part offer proposed by Rajasthan Royals is a one in a million deal for the Indian Head Coach but as of now, he can't take this role because he is serving the Indian Men's Team. According to report, Gautam Gambhir has rejected the offer of joining RR. Moreover, he couldn't join RR while serving BCCI as per the Supreme Court ruling based on Lodha Committee’s recommendations regarding a single person cannot be part of both IPL franchise as well as Indian team at a single time.

However, the only possible way of Gautam Gambhir IPL return through Rajasthan Royals coaching offer is after his coaching stint with the Indian Cricket Team. Gambhir coaching contract timeline goes till the ICC ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa. Only after this, there is a possibility of new Gautam Gambhir Rajasthan Royals era in the biggest cricket league in the world. As of now, Gambhir can only accept the offer under the table and continue with proposed offer a year later in 2027 post the World Cup.

Why Rajasthan Royals Approached Gautam Gambhir?

The Rajasthan Royals, one of the best teams in IPL, is known for it's legacy of backing legendary cricketers in their support staff. The team has been associated with the former Indian Head Coach, Rahul Dravid for several years from him being the player to leading the team with coaching duties. Currently, the coaching duties of the team are led by Sri Lanka legend, Kumar Sangakkara as the Head Coach along with Vikram Rathour as the Lead Assistant Coach and Shane Bond as the Fast Bowling Coach.

The main reason behind the Rajasthan Royals coaching offer to Gautam Gambhir is the plenty of experience he holds in the IPL as a mentor in the Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders followed by the appointment as the India's Head Coach.
