The Delhi Capitals vs Mumbai Indians, which is match 8 of IPL 2026, is taking place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday. This is the first afternoon game of the season and both teams would like to win their second clash of the league.

Hardik Pandya, who captained MI in the last game, missed the clash. The development was confirmed by the Indian Express and later by the broadcaster as well. This, in turn, comes as a big blow as Hardik is a key player for Mumbai Indians.

Why Hardik Pandya is Not Playing Today in DC vs MI Match?

Hardik Pandya missed the DC vs MI IPL 2026 match due to illness and in his absence, Suryakumar Yadav took the responsibility. He also captained the side last year when Pandya missed out on a few games due to niggles.

“(Hardik) He's not well. Just getting into his shoes today. There's a lot of positivity in the game,” Suryakumar Yadav said at the toss.

With Hardik missing out, it disrupted the balance of the side and made Mumbai Indians were forced to make three changes. Left-arm pacer Trent Boult had to face the unfortunate snub as he made way for the bowling all-rounder Corbin Bosch, who will lengthen the batting in Hardik's absence.

Also, Deepak Chahar, who missed the last game became Hardik Pandya for this match. Mitchell Santner, who recently joined MI after missing the first game has replaced Allah Ghazanfar.

Hardik Pandya has been an injury-prone player throughout his career. While he is one of the best all-rounders in the world, the injuries have forced him to miss some of the most important matches of his career.
