Why Punjab Kings Social Media Team Is Facing Backlash? Shreyas Iyer Sister’s Role Explained

3 min
Jasmeet Singh and Piyush Sharma

The 2025 IPL runners-up franchise, Punjab Kings, have found itself in the middle of a social media storm following a recent washout match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens. The Punjab Kings social media backlash started as a rain-interrupted game quickly escalated into a digital controversy.

As per some of the random sources on X (formerly Twitter), two prominent social media influencers, Jasmeet Singh and Piyush Sharma, associated with the Punjab Kings, have been ruled out of the franchise's content team following the PBKS social media controversy, as the team looks to mitigate the PR damage caused by recent viral content.

However, these are only speculations and there has been no official confirmation from Punjab Kings or from the IPL yet. But it is clear that the the PBKS social media content creators have been rocked and they might have found themselves in trouble.

What is PBKS Content Creators Controversy?

The primary reason for this controversy stems from a viral video that came out as disrespectful towards the Kolkata Knight Riders, one of the best teams in IPL. Following the match being called off due to rain, a reel got viral in which the PBKS social media team was seen mocking KKR in a funny dance video.
The situation got further complicated by the Shreyas Iyer sister controversy because of her involvement in this reel. Shresta Iyer, who is a well-known social media influencer herself, posted a reel using a Punjabi phrase: "Saade Punjabiyan da dil vadda hunda hai, lo de ditta ek point" (We Punjabis have a big heart, here, we gifted you a point).

While Shresta intended the post as a joke to support her brother’s team, KKR fans viewed it as an arrogant swipe at a franchise that Shreyas Iyer himself once represented. The backlash became so intense that Shresta had to issue a public clarification, stating there was no "personal attack", via an Instagram story.

The franchise's decision to distance itself from its primary influencers is seen as a move to regain professional decorum after the "gifted point" narrative caused a massive rift between the two fanbases.

Who are Jasmeet Singh and Piyush Sharma?

The Punjab Kings social media backlash has brought two of its content creators, Jasmeet Singh and Piyush Sharma, under the scanner. Jasmeet Singh is an actor, popular digital creator, and influencer known for his high-energy content. He was recently serving as a face for the PBKS content creators for fan engagement and social media campaigns.
Meanwhile, Piyush Sharma is a famous stand-up comedian, and a well-known social media personality and content strategist. He has been responsible for creating behind-the-scenes narratives and viral reels to boost the franchise's digital presence among the younger fans.

Both Jasmeet and Piyush were associated with Punjab Kings last year as well. If they are ruled out, it will be a big blow for the franchise's content team as they aim to match the most fan base teams in IPL.

Meanwhile, Punjab Kings have been in terrific form this year. They have already registered two wins in IPL 2026 and looked good in the third one as well. However, rain interrupted in between, forcing both KKR and PBKS share a point each.
