Will IPL 2026 Be Cancelled Due to US-Iran War? BCCI Issues Big Update

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the schedule for the first phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The richest cricket league in the world will begin from March 28 and so far, only a 20-match schedule has been released.

This is because of the elections which will be taking place in several states, where IPL is being played. In the season-opener, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will be taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

In the first phase, all the teams will be featuring in four games and as the excitement for the league grows, some reports suggest that there might be a setback. It was reported that IPL 2026 might get postponed due to the ongoing US-Iran War.

Due to the war, there has been a shortage of LPG in the country. Several hotels have been shut down due to the same, and there were speculations of IPL 2026 US Iran war impact as well.

Amidst all the speculations, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has come up with a strong statement. Vice-President Rajeev Shukla gave the IPL 2026 BCCI update and openly mentioned that the league will be played as per the schedule.

He also confirmed that the schedule for the next season will be announced after the Election Commission releases the dates for states going to the election. Speaking to ANI, he said:

The comments of Rajeev Shukla on IPL 2026 has come as a big relief for the fans. Meanwhile, US-Iran war has affected the whole world and with the Indian Premier League being a global tournament now, it can affect the league too. However, it will go on as scheduled as of now.

Indian Players to be in the Spotlight

The IPL 2026 season is expected to be a blockbuster. The Indian players, in particular, will be in spotlight as they will be entering the league on the back of the recently-won ICC T20 World Cup. Almost every team features World Cup winners, which in itself is a big excitement.

All the teams have plenty of big match-winners in their ranks and its’s hard to pick any favorites. Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings will enter as the best teams in IPL, having won five titles so far. Kolkata Knight Riders follow them next with three titles. The final is expected to be played on May 31, however, the venue and other details are yet to be disclosed.
