Why is Anthony Martial not in the squad for Manchester United vs Arsenal?

The last time Anthony Martial was on the pitch when Manchester United played was in mid December against Bournemouth. Since then, the French has been sidelined due to multiple fitness issues from illness to groin injury.

This afternoon at Old Trafford, he is again not included in the squad as the Red Devils hosted Arsenal. The manager Erik Ten Hag made three changes from the losing squad in the Crystal Palace game. Sofyan Amrabat, Amad Diallo and Scott McTominay started the game, replacing Christian Eriksen, Mason Mount and Antony.

Anthony Martial will join a new club next season

Martial’s absence is no longer about injury but reports suggest that Martial would leave the club at the end of the season. His contract will expire in June and both parties are known to have no intention of extending it.

According to the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Martial will play for another club starting next season while recovering from his injury in parallel.

“Anthony Martial, not in Man Utd squad again today as he’s still recovering but his chapter with the club is also already closed,” the Italian poston his X account. “Martial will join new club in the summer as he’s set to leave #MUFC.”

Martial has only scored once for the whole season. It was when United played Everton away at Goodison Park in November. Apart from his injury, he also started to lose his first-pick status with the club along with the emergence of several young players from the academy.
