UCL Draw: Bastian Schweinsteiger predicts the winner of Bayern Munich vs Arsenal quarterfinal tie

The draws for the quarterfinal of the Champions League were made on Friday (Mar 15) as eight teams learned their fate for the final phase of the competition. With some interesting ties on offer including Real Madrid vs Manchester City, the eyes of a few fans will also be cast on the Arsenal vs Bayern Munich clash as the two giants go head-to-head over the course of two legs. After the tie, former Germany World Cup winner and Bayern legend Bastian Schweinsteiger took to his X handle and commented on the two German sides, claiming his former side has a better chance of advancing.

“The draw for the quarter-final of the Champions League did what it promised. Both German clubs are avoiding the big names for the time being and are allowed to play their second legs in front of their home crowd,” an English translation of Schweinsteiger’s tweet read on his X handle.

“Nevertheless, I see @BVB as an outsider in the game against @Atleti’s team. The @FCBayern, on the other hand, has shown in the past that @Arsenal suits them and will do everything to reach the semi-finals,” the tweet further added.

According to Schweinsteiger Bayern stand a better chance of winning the tie against North London rivals Arsenal having had an impressive record. Interestingly, on their last two Champions League visits to North London, Bayern have scored an aggregate of 12 goals (five against Arsenal and seven against Spurs). The last three fixtures between Bayern and Arsenal have seen the former win all the matches by repeat score of 5-1.

The tie will have two notable talking points – Bayern fans will be prohibited from attending the match after causing unrest in their last two away matches including the R16 clash against Lazio. UEFA’s disciplinary committee has banned Bayern fans from attending the matches. The second factor will see the return of former Tottenham Hotspur man and England captain Harry Kane.

Kane has an impressive record against Arsenal and could be the difference-maker for the side. This will be the second time this season, that Bayern face an English opponent in the Champions League, having also played against Manchester United in the group stage.

UCL Draw: Dortmund stand outside chance against Atletico according to the German legend

On the flip side, Schweinsteiger predicts Atletico Madrid have a better chance of advancing to the semifinals against Bourrusia Dortmund. He reckons Borussia Dortmund have an outside chance of winning against Diego Simeone’s side.
