Chelsea Transfer News: The Blues agree personal terms with Palmeiras winger Estevao Willian

Premier League giants Chelsea have already begun making moves in the transfer market and have reportedly sealed their first deal. As per reports from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Blues have agreed upon personal terms with Palmeiras’ highly-rated winger Estevao Willian.

However, Romano’s report also adds that Palmeiras and Chelsea are yet to agree a fee for the permanent transfer of the 17-year-old.

Chelsea Transfer News: What would Estevao Willian bring to Chelsea?

Estevao Willian began his youth career with Cruzeiro (2017-21) before moving to Palmeiras’ academy in 2021. He broke into the first team at the start of the 2022/23 season and has impressed with his performances. Despite being just 17, he has made 33 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing four assists.

A winger blessed with lightning-quick footwork and great ball control, Willian often also goes by the nickname of ‘Messinho’ as a homage to Lionel Messi. Such has been his rise to the top that Willian has already represented Brazil at the U17 level to go with his club performances.

Chelsea as a club have shown great affinity towards signing talented and promising players from Brazil, and have created superstars of them. Oscar, Willian and Ramires are some of the best examples of Brazilians who have thrived at Stamford Bridge.

Now under the ownership of Todd Boehly, the club has focussed on acquiring young, talented players to secure their long-term future. Players such as Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Mykhaylo Mudryk were signed for astronomical fees as Chelsea strive to get competitive again. Should they sign Estevao Willian, it would be a decent coup for them.

What main areas do Chelsea need to address?

While having depth in attacking areas is always a must considering how demanding those positions are, teams also need to have sufficient depth in other areas. Chelsea currently find themselves in a tough spot as they have plenty of quality attackers. However, they lack depth in midfield and defence, which has ultimately been their downfall.

With Thiago Silva earmarked to leave, the Blues must sign a quality centre-back who is ready to start immediately. Additionally, given the injury to Robert Sanchez, they could also be in the market for a goalkeeper. Another area they need to address is central midfield, where they lack quality despite having personnel who can fill the positions.
