Chelsea exploring Joao Felix option as Samu Omorodion deal collapses

Summary

Chelsea's pursuit of Atletico Madrid's Samu Omorodion has collapsed due to contract issues, forcing them to revisit other striker options. The club is now in talks to bring back Joao Felix from Atletico, who are looking to offload players to fund moves for Julian Alvarez and Conor Gallagher. Amidst this, Chelsea sealed the signing of Pedro Neto from Wolves for £54 million on a seven-year deal, with the winger unveiled during a pre-season fixture against Inter Milan. The Blues continue struggling to secure their primary attacking targets this summer.

Chelsea were looking all set in the transfer market as they were close to signing an attacker in the form of Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid, but the deal seems to have collapsed as per reports. Omorodion’s deal was agreed upon between the two clubs, but there have been problems regarding the contract from the player’s side.

This collapse leaves Chelsea in an odd situation to again look for a striker in the market. They attempted for pretty much everyone this summer, from Victor Osimhen to Benjamin Sesko to John Duran and now Omordion, but nothing has materialised.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are discussing the transfer of Joao Felix, who might return to the Blues after an ill-fated loan spell there in 2023. Atleti are set to sign Argentine superstars Julian Alvarez and Conor Gallagher. In order to prevent these deals from collapsing, Rojiblancos needs to sell, leading them to explore options at the transfer market.

Meanwhile, Chelsea had signed Pedro Neto from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a sum of around 54 million pounds, including add-ons. He has signed a seven-year deal that will see him stay at the club until 2031. Neto was presented at halftime at Stamford Bridge during Sunday’s pre-season friendly with Inter Milan.
