Cole Palmer thinks that after a first season marred by injuries, everyone will realise just how excellent Christopher Nkunku is next season.
Christopher Nkunku for Chelsea This Season
After Newcastle’s loss to Manchester United, Chelsea defeated Brighton 2-1 on Wednesday night to move up to sixth place. Both players scored goals in the victory.
Due to injuries that kept him out of the game for the majority of the season, Nkunku hasn’t been able to have the same impact as Palmer, but last night’s performance gave fans a taste of what to anticipate when he’s healthy and on fire.
Nkunku brought a lot of excitement with him when he moved from German club RB Leipzig in the summer of last year in a transfer deal worth £52M.
The France international had a strong preseason until suffering an injury in the last game against Borussia Dortmund, which kept him out for four months.
After making a comeback, he scored goals against Wolves and Liverpool; nevertheless, he sustained more injuries, which kept him out of play for the majority of 2024.
Cole Palmer comments on Nkunku
The 26-year-old, who is finally fully recovered and back in the starting lineup, has started Chelsea’s last three games off the bench. He scored his goal against Brighton with style.
After much anticipation, Blues supporters eventually got their wish when Nkunku used his signature balloon celebration for the first time during his Chelsea career.
Palmer gushed over his teammate and stated that next season, everyone will witness his true abilities.
“Everyone knows his quality, even from Leipzig, before he came here. He’s been unlucky with injuries but if he can get firing and get fit you saw what he can do out there last night. So I think next season everyone will see how good he actually is.”
Supporters should anticipate seeing that balloon pop numerous times in the future. Nkunku is a true talent who will make a significant impact next season provided he stays fit.
