DC United vs Seattle Sounders Preview
The Seattle Sounders are set to travel east for a showdown against D.C. United on Saturday, marking their sole encounter of the season. It’s been a rocky journey for the Sounders this season, securing only one win in eight matches. Currently positioned 12th out of 14 clubs in the Western Conference, their recent 2-0 loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps added to their challenges.
Similarly, DC United has faced their own struggles this season, occupying the 11th spot in the Eastern Conference. Their winless streak of three games, including two consecutive losses, raises concerns. During this stretch, they’ve conceded 5 goals while scoring only two.
Despite encountering injury setbacks, United’s performance hasn’t met expectations. This presents an opportunity for the Seattle Sounders, although coach Brian Schmetzer has faced his own set of difficulties this season.
DC United vs Seattle Sounders team news
DC United
Aaron Herrera and Mateusz Klich were absent from DC United’s recent match due to yellow card accumulation but are expected to return for the upcoming game. However, Tyler Miller is still recovering from shoulder surgery, and Garrison Tubbs, although on the bench last week, may miss out again due to injury.
Additionally, Theodore Ku-DiPietro is nursing a hip problem, Steve Birnbaum missed the last game due to a knee issue, and Russell Canouse was unavailable, although not due to injury according to the MLS website.
Seattle Sounders
Pedro de la Vega missed his sixth consecutive match for the Sounders last Saturday due to a hamstring strain but could make a comeback in a week or two. Joao Paulo returned to the starting lineup but was subbed off due to a hip issue. However, the team faces a bigger challenge as two defenders received direct red cards in the last game, leading to Jackson Ragen and Álex Roldán being suspended for the next two matches.
This will necessitate some lineup changes for the Sounders. Braudilio Rodrigues and Reed Baker-Whiting were sidelined for the Rave Green last weekend due to right and left hamstring injuries, respectively. Leo Chu was present on the bench in the matches against Dallas and Vancouver but did not play, despite returning to full training.
Nouhou Tolo was uncertain last weekend after being substituted off early in their victory over Montreal, but he managed to play the full 90 minutes against Vancouver as a left-back.
