Denmark vs England Preview, Prediction, Lineups and Team News | Euro 2024

Preview

  • Tournament: Euro 2024
  • Date: Thursday, June 20
  • Kick-off Time: 05:00 pm GMT
  • Venue: Frankfurt Arena, Germany

The second round of Group C fixtures in Euro 2024 will see Denmark take on England, with the two sides aiming for the top spot ahead of their clash at the Deutsche Bank Park on June 20.

The Danes will enter this contest on the back of decent outing against Slovenia in the first round, as they secured a 1-1 draw. Christian Eriksen scored the opener 17 minutes into the game, but Erik Janza found an equalizer for the Slovaks just 13 minutes from full-time. However, with just one defeat in their last eight, Denmark look strong heading into the next one.

The Three Lions, on the other hand, secured a narrow 1-0 win against Serbia in their Euro 2024 opener. Jude Bellingham’s early first-half strike was enough to secure the result, but they will look to be more decisive and clinical in the final third going forward. A win for the Three Lions would certainly secure qualification to the knockouts and could also win them the top spot in the group.

That said, let’s take a look at the team news coming out of both camps.

Denmark team news

Manager Kasper Hjumland will be pleased with his team’s display last time out, despite the disappointing result in the end. The biggest positive is that star midfielder Christian Eriksen looks in fine touch, as he dominated proceedings in midfield.

Christensen and Vestergaard looked solid at the back, while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Victor Kristianssen looked solid in midfield. Jonas Wind had a decent game up-front as well, but Rasmus Hojlund will need to turn it up a notch against England. All Danish players are fit and available to be picked.

England team news

Gareth Southgate, too, will be pleased with his team’s efforts towards securing their 1-0 win against Serbia. Most players had decent games with Bukayo Saka, Marc Guehi, Kyle Walker, and of course, Jude Bellingham being the standouts. However, one thing that may worry the manager is their lack of shot attempts.

England attempted just five shots throughout the game, with only three on-target. They were fortunate Serbia could not find their shooting boots either, but the Three Lions may not be spared by teams with more vigour and intent.

Key Players to Watch

Eriksen put in a great performance for Denmark. (Getty Images)
  • Christian Eriksen (Denmark) – The gifted playmaker had a wonderful game for his team in the last game against Slovenia and also scored their opening goal at Euro 2024. He passed the ball with 88% accuracy, including seven key passes and seven crosses. He also won four duels and made one tackle. An in-form Eriksen will be a huge boost for Denmark against England, especially since he’s played with and against most of the English players in the Premier League.
  • Bukayo Saka (England) – The winger was always eager to make runs in behind Serbia’s defence, especially when Alexander-Arnold had the ball at his feet. Saka passed the ball with 90% accuracy and won five duels. He also completed three dribbles and made three clearances and will be one to watch against the Danes.

Denmark vs England Head-to-Head Record

These two sides have had their fair share of clashes over the years, with the most recent coming in the last edition of the Euros. As things stand, England currently lead the recent head-to-head with three wins compared to Denmark’s one, with the teams sharing one draw.

Last 5 Games

  • England 2-1 Denmark (A.E.T.) [07/21]
  • England 0-1 Denmarl [10/20]
  • Denmark 0-0 England [09/20]
  • England 1-0 Denmark [03/14]
  • Denmark 1-2 England [02/11]

Prediction

Going by the recent record, the upcoming match could either be one of the most exciting games, or the most boring game at Euro 2024. This is purely down to England’s approach, who would prefer being conservative. Denmark, on the other hand, will look to go all-out.

Prediction: Denmark 1-1 England.
