“In my head it’s normal”: Diogo Dalot comments on playing for Manchester United while being ‘injured’ this season

Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot has revealed that he has played with injuries this season. The Red Devils have suffered from fitness issues this season. Erik ten Hag’s side have suffered over 60 different injuries and those have taken a toll on their performances.

Most of the injuries have come in the defense for United. Dalot has now revealed that he has played while being injured as well. The Portuguese said (via GOAL):

“Yeah a few obviously but that’s part of being a football player. Are you ready to cope with it? Are you ready to make an extra mile for the team? Especially this season. And there are games that you have to forget a little bit of the pain. The problems that you are having. Because the team needs you, because there are no players. That obviously happened sometimes this season, but for me it’s just… In my head it’s normal.”

Dalot has played 3174 minutes in the Premier League this season, more than any other Manchester United player. However, his latest revelation proves that the Portuguese forced himself to be available even when he suffered pain.

Bruno Fernandes is right behind Diogo Dalot as the Manchester United player with the most Premier League minutes this season. Fernandes missed only one game through injury, the 4-0 away defeat against Crystal Palace. This marked the first time Fernandes missed a club game due to injury. Dalot has spoken highly about the United captain’s professionalism, saying (GOAL):

“He’s been one of the cases that obviously… he is showing that he’s doing everything that he can to play for the club and to help the club. He’s been available every game and it shows that if you are available, you are closest to play games. This is the kind of way that I think every club, every squad should go because if you have 70-80 percent of the players available every season, I think it’s going to be a lot easier than if you have 10-15%.”

Fernandes has been awarded the Sit Matt Busby Player of the Season for 2023-24. The Portuguese has now won the award three times. Only Cristiano Ronaldo and David De Gea have won it more (both four times).
