Ederson Injury: Manchester City confirm star player is out injured for the season

Manchester City have confirmed that Ederson will miss the rest of the season. The Brazilian goalkeeper has suffered a fracture to his eye socket.

Ederson collided with Cristian Romero during Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Tottenham in the Premier League. The goalkeeper was knocked out cold at the goalpost and was treated on the pitch.

The Brazilian was allowed to continue for a few minutes before Pep Guardiola took him off. The goalkeeper was furious following the substitution and was spotting kicking the coolers.

However, the club have now confirmed that he suffered a fracture to the eye socket and released a statement:

“Manchester City can confirm that Ederson will miss the final two games of the season due to a small fracture of his eye socket. The Brazilian goalkeeper suffered the injury during our 2-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday evening. He has since undergone scans of the affected area that have revealed a small fracture to the right eye socket. The injury will prevent Ederson from playing any further part in the remaining games of the 2023/24 season. Everyone at the Club wishes Ederson a speedy recovery.”

Ederson has been called up to the Brazil squad for the Copa America. He was named as the third goalkeeper following Alisson and Bento.

Ederson Injury: Pep Guardiola was forced to take off Manchester City star

Pep Guardiola spoke to the media after the 2-0 win over Tottenham and revealed that Ederson did not have a concussion. However, he stated that there was an issue with his eye and said:

“Ederson did not have concussion, he had a problem with his eye. He could not see properly, so the doctor said I should change.”

Manchester City were leading 1-0 when Ederson was forced off. Stefan Ortega was brought on as the replacement and put on a stunning display to help his side win the game.

Guardiola spoke about the German and said:

“Ortega is a world-class goalkeeper. An exceptional, exceptional goalkeeper. He defined, I would say, how the team is a team. Ortega saved the actions, otherwise Arsenal will be champions. Do you know how many times Son punished us in the last seven or eight years? I said, ‘No, not again’, but Stefan made an incredible save.”

Ortega saved a 1v1 chance to deny Son Heung-Min when the score was 1-0. Jeremy Doku went to win a penalty for Manchester City a few seconds later and Erling Haaland scored his second of the game from the spot to win it.
