FC Barcelona and Nike in talks over new Mega-Contract

FC Barcelona recently terminated their contract with Nike after 27 years, however, in a massive twist the two entities are now in talks over a new mega-contract which could potentially last for 10 years!

FC Barcelona and Nike discuss new Mega-Contract:

In March, reports coming out of Catalonia shocked the world as FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed that the Catalan club had terminated its contract with Nike after 27 years. Explaining Barcelona’s stand and Nike’s violations, president Laporta said, “We have told Nike that based on the violations that were clear to us, we have TERMINATED our contract with them. They had 45 days to compensate us, and they did not do that and we informed them of the termination of the contract.”

However, in a massive twist, reports suggest that FC Barcelona and Nike are on the verge of agreeing on a new mega-contract, according to Marca. The news comes on the heels of a court ruling earlier this week that ruled in Nike’s favor forcing La Blaugrana to honor the existing deal till 2028. Nevertheless, in an attempt to woo Barcelona, Nike have now offered Barcelona a new mega-contract worth billions leading to renewed talks between FC Barcelona and Nike.

The new deal between FC Barcelona and Nike could include a signing bonus worth $106 million. The deal would then go on to see Barcelona earn nearly $128 million a year from the deal till the end of the 10-year-long deal. If the discussions between FC Barcelona and Nike come to fruition, it will certainly improve La Blaugrana’s financial condition given their recent struggles with debt and the Financial Fair Play rules of LaLiga.
