Roberto De Zerbi

REVEALED: Final 4 shortlist for new Chelsea manager

Despite finishing sixth on the Premier League and qualifying for European football, reports indicated that Chelsea were unhappy with the way the season went. So much so, that the Telegraph had reported that the Blues were set to sack Mauricio Pochettino soon. That was later confirmed via an official statement from the club and the move has since been heavily criticized.

The statement indicated that the Argentine left via mutual consent although reports had indicated that Pochettino was sacked by the Chelsea board. While fans were upset by the decision to do so, the Blues never announced a replacement and the search continues. However, that may not go on for too much longer as reports have indicated that the club plan to have a manager in place before May ends.

De Zerbi alongside Thomas Frank, Kieran McKenna and Enzo Maresca on Chelsea’s shortlist

Yet despite that, the club have yet to make an official announcement although Sky Sports has now reported that former Brighton boss Robert De Zerbi is now on the club’s shortlist. The Italian left the Seagulls at the end of the 2023/24 season and has been linked with jobs across Italy, Germany and now England.

Not only that, reports have indicated that Manchester United are looking at De Zerbi as a potential replacement for Erik ten Hag. However, Sky Sports has revealed that the Blues have narrowed their long-list to four names with De Zerbi on that list alongside Thomas Frank, Kieran McKenna and Enzo Maresca.

The former Brighton boss is reportedly the front-runner but reports have indicated that Leicester City boss Maresca has also attracted a lot of attention from the Chelsea board. But Sky Sports has also added that signing any of the four managers will cost the club money as they’ll have to break the coach’s remaining contract including De Zerbi’s.
