Goalkeeper

Mike Maignan – 6: Should have done a lot better for all three goals and can be blamed for the loss. He still managed three saves but never got close to saving the shots that led to the goals.

Defenders

Jonathan Clauss – 6: Failed to make a single interception in the game and was hardly in the right position. Still played 78 minutes and was eventually replaced by Jules Kounde.

Ibrahima Konaté – 6: Never managed to get close to the Italian attacks and was never in the right place for all three goals. Always got pulled out of position and was not getting the help he needed.

William Saliba – 5.5: Probably his worst game for France since making his debut for the U21 side. He was moving about and getting pulled out of position like Konate.

Theo Hernández – 7: More involved in attack than defense today. He was ready to exploit the space but just could not get the ball into the box.

Midfielders

Youssouf Fofana – 6: All over the pitch and never managed to make an impact was taken off before the hour mark as they needed a better midfielder on the pitch.

N’Golo Kanté – 6.5: Just not at his best today and was getting spun around by the Italian midfielders. He won just one duel today and kept losing possession.

Michael Olise – 6.5: Decent in attack but managed just one shot that was saved easily. He was brilliant in dribbling and only failed once.

Antoine Griezmann – 6: Kept trying to get France back in the game and was doing it until he was taken off. But just could not get things right today and his only shot came seconds before he was taken off.

Bradley Barcola – 7.5: Managed to steal the ball from the Italian defenders and score in the first 13 seconds of the match. He kept pushing for more, but could not get another goal.

Kylian Mbappé – 7: Could have done a lot more today but was unable to brush off Bastoni as the Italian chased him like a shadow.

Goalkeeper

Gianluigi Donnarumma – 7: Had to make just two saves in the game and was more involved in passing the ball around.

Defenders

Giovanni Di Lorenzo – 6: Was not at his best today and it was his mistake that saw France score after just 13 seconds. He still managed to make three tackles and 4 clearances in the game.

Alessandro Bastoni – 7.5: Was on top of his game and never gave Kylian Mbappe a moment’s peace. He was on the Frenchman’s toes and never gave him space to shoot.

Riccardo Calafiori – 7: Went off injured but was brilliant before that. He was excellent in passing and was always in a position to help out with Kylian Mbappe and Michael Olise.

Midfielders

Andrea Cambiaso – 6: His backpass will be blamed for France’s goal, but it was more down to Di Lorenzo. He was decent in the game and always available on the right flank.

Davide Frattesi – 7.5: Scored the goal to help Italy take the lead and was on top of his game in the 62 minutes he played today. Hardly involved in buildup, but always helped in pulling the defenders away to make space.

Samuele Ricci – 7.5: Sat back and held his position throughout the match to help the other midfielders move around. He was sitting just ahead of the defenders and ready to collect the ball at every chance.

Federico Dimarco – 7.5: Scored a stunning goal to get Italy back into the game today. He was tremendous in the match but more involved in attack than defense.

Forwards
