Both men are known to have a mutual respect for each other. When Klopp announced his departure from the club back in January, Van Dijk was stunned and admitted that the news was hard to take.

Today after the Wolverhampton game, Van Dijk said that he was not prepared for the farewell despite having known it since the beginning of the year.

“I’ve got no words, it’s an emotional day. Liverpool is special,” he told SkySports. “It was always going to be a tough afternoon for everyone for different reasons, we wanted to win the game, do our job and then be very emotional after the game. We will be.

“You can’t prepare for these situations, moments but these things happen. It’s been a good day, he deserves every bit of love that he’s getting and the rest of the staff as well. Tough. Life goes on.”

During his time with Liverpool, Klopp has won multiple titles including the Premier League, the Champions League, the FA Cup, and winning the Carabao Cup twice. The only collection missing from his portfolio was the Europa League.
