Liverpool vs Brighton Preview

Liverpool vs Brighton will take place in the Premier League on March 31 as the second-placed Reds will host eighth-placed Seagulls at Anfield.

The hosts will enter this game on the back of a decent run of form. With just one defeat in their last seven games, Liverpool are well-placed ahead of their next game. In that span, they also recorded five wins and a draw. Their last game was a disappointing 4-3 loss to Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup which saw them crash out. Now, the Reds will look to bring their focus back to the title race and will look to win their next one.

The visitors, on the other hand, will enter this game on the back of an inconsistent run of form. They lost three games on the bounce, before recording two successive wins in their last two outings as the team struggles for form. What’s even more peculiar that Brighton conceded eight goals without reply in their defeats, but scored 2 without reply in their wins. They secured a morale-boosting 1-0 win over AS Roma in their last game but were still knocked out of the Europa League after a 4-1 aggregate loss.

That said, let’s take a look at the team news coming out of both camps.

Manager Jurgen Klopp will be without several key players ahead of this game as the Reds’ injury list shows no sign of shortening. Long-term absentees Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara, Diogo Jota, and Trent Alexander-Arnold are definitely out for the next game.

Meanwhile, Alisson, Ibrahima Konate, Curtis Jones, and Darwin Nunez all suffered minor injuries just before the international break. Alisson and Nunez should make the cut to face Brighton but Konate and Jones could be out for another week. Youngsters Stefan Bajcetic and Conor Bradley should also resume training with the main group in the coming days.

Brighton

Manager Roberto De Zerbi, too, will miss a few key players ahead of the Seagulls’ trip to Liverpool. Long-term absentees Kaoru Mitoma and Solly March will miss out, with no fixed return date yet mentioned for them. Forward Joao Pedro missed their last game and could be assessed late before their next one to decide whether to include him.

Liverpool vs Brighton Prediction

Seeing the high-scoring nature of this fixture in the past, the next one is also likely to go down the same path. Liverpool have several injury concerns to deal with but are still putting in spirited performances week in, and week out. Plus, they are a different beast to face at Anfield.

However, Brighton will draw confidence from being unbeaten at Anfield since November 2019. They could sneak a point if they are at their absolute best.

Prediction: Liverpool 2-2 Brighton.
