  • Stadium: Old Trafford

Man United vs Everton Preview:

The battle between Manchester United and Everton will kick-off in the afternoon at Old Trafford on Saturday. Manchester United will hope to catch a break back at home after two consecutive losses in the Premier League. The Red Devils were in fine form until a couple of weeks ago, but ever since  Rasmus Højilund’s injury have looked like a disjointed unit.

Marred with injuries, Erik ten Hag’s United has had to constantly play players out of possession. On the weekend, they started off well in the derby against Manchester City but were blown away by the end. The derby ended 3-1 in City’s favor, further asserting the difference in quality of the two sides. Man United will hope to put their sorrows to bed against an underwhelming Everton.

Everton’s rendezvous with the relegation zone may have ended momentarily, but they certainly aren’t out of danger. Currently, Everton are only six points off the drop zone, with Luton Town, and Nottingham attempting to emulate them. However, it would be unfair to say they haven’t improved recently.

Despite not winning any of their last five outings in the Premier League, Everton have managed to reduce the damage. The Toffees have accumulated three points in three-five outings, managing to draw thrice and lose twice. While Everton were hammered by United earlier in the season, the Toffees will fancy their chances against an ailing Man United.

The home team has been a victim of injuries in a crucial phase of the season. This injury crisis combined with their initial underperformance in the first half of the season has almost surely dented their aspirations of finishing in a Champions League spot at the end of the season.

On Saturday, Rasmus Højlund will continue to remain on the sidelines. While he has returned to training with the squad, he is unlikely to recover for the match against Everton. He will make his return against Liverpool in the FA Cup. Manchester United will also enter the tie at Old Trafford without the services of Tyrell Malacia and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The two fullbacks are likely to return against Liverpool as well after their long absence due to injury. It was earlier speculated that Lisandro Martinez will return before Man United face Everton, but now it seems unlikely. Mason Mount remains on the sidelines as he recovers from his calf injury. Anthony Martial will continue recovering from his groin strain and won’t participate against Everton. Luke Shaw remains ruled out for the season.

While Harry Maguire and Johnny Evans picked up a knock in the last few games, they will return for the game against Toffees. Marcus Rashford was suffering from fatigue as well, but will face Everton.

The Merseyside club has had another mediocre campaign, but seem in a better position compared to last season. The Toffees continue to be plagued by defensive issues. Everton have also suffered injuries throughout the season, but luckily enter the battle against United with few injuries. Ex-PSG midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye sustained a groin injury recently and is recovering well from it. Everton management are positive about his return for the trip to Old Trafford. However, he will start on the bench most likely.

Everton will rue the absence of Arnaut Danjuma who sustained a leg injury on 1st February. Dele Ali remains ruled out with his long-term injury.

Man United vs Everton Prediction:

Man United and Everton enter the tie at Old Trafford in similar form. The two clubs desperately need to keep winning for them to achieve their objectives for the season. While Man United should have enough to glide past Everton, it is likely that the Toffees could hold them to a draw. For Erik ten Hag’s ailing men, a win against Everton is of paramount importance to resurrect their failing campaign.
