Rodri is back injured after a collision with Thomas Partey in Arsenal game

Manchester City were enjoying the 1-0 lead over Arsenal at Etihad thanks to Erling Haaland’s goal. The joy didn’t last long enough. Exactly nine minutes later, Rodri, one of Pep Guardiola’s favorite players Rodri was on the floor. The Spaniard had a little knock after a challenge from Arsenal’s Thomas Partey.

After a careful examination from the medicals, Rodri was brought to the pitch-side. As he left the pitch, the former Atletico Madrid player gave a hand gesture asking for him to be substituted. Guardiola then replaced him with Mateo Kovacic.

Huge blow for Manchester City

The disaster didn’t stop there for City. Right a minute later, Arsenal scored an equalizer through their summer signing, Riccardo Calafiori who found the top bin of Ederson’s net. Some of City’s players including the gaffer Guardiola were not happy with the referee who let the game on when City players were off-guard. 

Further information about how long will Rodri be sidelined is not clear as City is paying careful attention to the player. Losing Rodri is a huge blow as he just returned from a hamstring injury which makes him only played a league game so far. 

Rodri missed Chelsea and Ipswich games while staying on the bench when City beat West Ham United 3-1 at London Stadium. He played 45 minutes against Brentford and started at Etihad for this Arsenal match. 

Initially, Pep Guardiola needed clarification about how bad the injury was. But the latest update showed that it is likely for Rodri to finish the season earlier than expected. FutMob reported that Rodri suffered a crucial ligament injury which makes him have to be rested until the end of the season. However, there might be an update from City regarding Rodri’s condition as the team doctor is working for the best to heal the player.

Rodri already had limited playing time this season following the injury he picked during the Euro with Spain. This season alone, he just appeared in one game, playing 45 minutes against Brentford. What happened at Etihad yesterday put the former Atletico Madrid midfielder back in the treatment room. 

Last season, Rodri played a crucial role in City’s glorious Premier League campaign by playing 34 matches and scoring eight goals. The situation has worsened City’s injury concern as they already lost Kevin De Bruyne who picked an
