Man United vs Liverpool Preview

Man United will host arch-rivals Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup at Old Trafford on March 17.

The hosts enter this game on the back of a decent run of form. With three wins and two defeats in their last five games, United have done fairly well for their results. In that span, they have scored seven goals and conceded six as their inconsistency shows at times. They defeated Everton 2-0 at home in their last Premier League outing and will look to continue in the winning form in the next game as well.

The Reds, on the other hand, enter this game on the back of an eight-game unbeaten run. They have won seven of those, before a 1-1 draw against Manchester City in their last league game. In those eight games, Liverpool have scored a remarkable 22 goals as they continue to show their attacking prowess. They have also conceded just five goals and kept three clean sheets in that time. The Reds will look to carry that forward heading into the next game.

With that said, let’s take a look at the team news coming out from both camps.

Manager Erik ten Hag has a long list of injuries to deal with ahead of this crucial fixture. Long-term absentees Tyrell Malacia (knee), Mason Mount (unknown), Lisandro Martinez (knee) and Luke Shaw (muscle) will miss out.

Harry Maguire missed their win against the Toffees and are major doubts ahead of Manchester United vs Liverpool as well. Rasmus Hojlund could make a return against Liverpool.

Liverpool

Like his counterpart, Jurgen Klopp too will have several injuries to deal with, arguably more. Key players Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota and Joel Matip are sidelined long-term with knee ligament injuries.

Alisson Becker (hamstring), Ryan Gravenberch (ankle), Ibrahima Konate (thigh) and Curtis Jones (ankle) are likely to miss out as well.

Manchester United vs Liverpool Head-to-Head Record

Five of the last six competitive meetings between these two sides have ended in goal-fests, barring the goalless draw last time around. The Reds have won four of those in comprehensive fashion, with Manchester United stealing a close win in the other.

The Red Devils have almost always folded against Liverpool in recent times and will have to put up a monumental effort to avoid a repeat of the same.
