Olympique de Marseille enter the frame to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk in January

Chelsea’s remarkable activity in the summer transfer window has stacked up the forward line. Consequently, Mykhaylo Mudryk has fallen down the pecking order and might be on his way out of the club in January. TEAMtalk has reported the possibility of Mudryk being put on the transfer list by the Blues. Chelsea will not block an exit with the player also in favour of leaving due to the lack of minutes in the Premier League.

The Chelsea bosses have grown frustrated with the winger’s performances at the club. Ever since arriving in January 2023, there has been little substance about his playstyle. The likes of Pedro Neto, Jadon Sancho, Christopher Nkunku, Cole Palmer, and Joao Felix are ahead of the Ukrainian in the plans of Enzo Maresca. His market value has dipped massively which will attract interest from several European clubs, with Olympique de Marseille being one of them.

Marseille is currently coached by Italian tactician, Roberto De Zerbi. The former Brighton coach is renowned for getting the best out of young talents and being a potent man-manager. These qualities will do a lot of good for Mykhaylo Mudryk, whose confidence has taken a big hit at Stamford Bridge. The 45-year-old is en route to a successful season with the French giants and will be delighted with the addition of Mudryk, owing to his pace and dribbling qualities.

The uphill journey of Mykhaylo Mudryk at Chelsea

Mykhaylo Mudryk arrived at Chelsea in the winter of 2023 from Shakhtar Donetsk for a whopping €100 million, with €70 million being paid upfront and the remaining linked to performance benchmarks. At the time, Mudryk was one of the most promising talents in Europe and was expected to catch the Premier League by storm. It is safe to say that the displays have not been anywhere near the required level. Chelsea’s transitional and unstable state has not helped his case either with Mudryk failing to secure a regular starting spot.

The Ukrainian has only been able to accumulate seven goals and five assists in 62 games in a Chelsea shirt. His lack of composure in front of the goal as well as his inability to create an impact has left him merely as a substitute option. He is yet to register a goal contribution this campaign and Enzo Maresca does not plan on a future with Mudryk at the club. Mykhaylo Mudryk’s transfer will prove to be one of the most unproductive and unfortunate investments made by Chelsea.
