He became the youngest player to play in the modern Champions League for United at the age of 17 years and 156 days. He made his Premier League debut against Arsenal in March 2019 as well. He won the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award at the club for that season.

He made his first start in a 2-0 defeat against Cardiff City on May 12. Greenwood first scored for Manchester United against Astana in the Europa League on September 19, 2019. In July 2020, he became the first player under 19 to score in three consecutive Premier League games since Francis Jeffers in 1999. It was a breakout season for him, which earned him the No. 11 shirt ahead of the next season, previously worn by the likes of Ryan Giggs.

In February 2021, he signed a new contract which was valid until 2025 with an option of a one-year extension. He went four months without scoring in the league but broke the streak against Brighton & Hove Albion in April.
