Mikel Arteta gives positive update on three Arsenal players ahead of Manchester City clash

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Gabriel Magalhães could make the squad to face Manchester City. He stated that the trio are yet to train but could be available for the next session.

Speaking to the media on Friday ahead of the match, the Spaniard gave a positive update on the Arsenal trio. He said:

“There is a chance to see Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Magalhães playing against Man City, yeah. They haven’t trained but tomorrow we have another session so there is a chance that they can be available.”

The trio missed the matches for the respective nationals during the international break. Saka was called up by England, but was later sent back by Gareth Southgate.

When quizzed if the win over Manchester City in October will give the players more confidence ahead of the match at the Etihad, the manager added:

“We had some clashes as well in the FA Cup and Community Shields and it’s all great experiences. They have raised the bar in this league, and I think in football in general too, to a level that hasn’t been seen before. That’s the beauty of sport, it makes you better and challenges you more. You have to keep up with that pace, and that’s what we are trying to do.”

Arsenal managed a 1-0 win over Manchester City, with Gabriel Martinelli scoring the lone goal of the match in the 86th minute.

Mikel Arteta on Arsenal vs Manchester City in the title race

Mikel Arteta was quizzed about being in the title race once again, and he claimed that the players were confident. He said:

“I was just watching everybody walk into the building and I love the energy. I love the smiles, they were glad to be back, and they actually wanted to train yesterday. The way they communicate and relay with each other is phenomenal. We have to embrace the moment, we need to go day-by-day, train really well and prepare for every match and see where this can take us. We’ve done a lot already to be in the position that we are in and now we have to embrace and enjoy the moment and go for it.”

The Gunners are on top of the Premier League table after 28 matches with 64 points. Their opponents, Manchester City, are just a point behind but sit 3rd as Liverpool are 2nd – level on points with Arsenal but behind on goal difference.
