Nicolas Jackson sends message to fans
Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has sent a defiant message to the fans ahead of the London derby against Tottenham Hotspur. The Blues recently lost a London derby against Arsenal by the score of 5-0. Jackson wants to improve on the result and make a statement by defeating Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on May 2.
Jackson emphasized the importance of a game of such magnitude to the fans and added that the team will look to make a point for the fans. Speaking ahead of the Spurs game, the Senegalese striker said (via Blue_Footy on X):
“We are going to fight because London derbies are not easy. Last week we lost one and we don’t want that to happen again. So we’re going to fight as a team, fight for the club, and it’s a derby that is very important for the club and the players. We are going to fight for it. We will try to do it as a team, one family, and try to make the supporters happy.”
Chelsea are currently ninth in the Premier League with 48 points from 33 matches. Mauricio Pochettino’s side have won two of their last five league games, drawing two and losing another. Spurs, meanwhile, are fifth with 60 points from 33 matches. They have won two, lost two, and have drawn one of their last five league matches. Much like Chelsea, Tottenham recently lost a London derby against Arsenal (3-2 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium).
Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson’s form heading into the London derby
Chelsea paid Villareal a reported 35 million Euros to sign Nicolas Jackson in the 2023 summer. The Senegalese striker has been a hit and miss since joining the club. While his blistering pace has caused oppositions problem, Jackson’s finishing has been questionable. The 22-year-old has so far scored 13 goals and has provided five assists in 39 appearances across competitions.
Jackson also missed a catalog of chances against Arsenal, despite finding himself in good positions on multiple occasions. However, the Senegalese scored a hat-trick when Chelsea played Tottenham earlier in the season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
