Nicolo Zaniolo Injury: Italian set to miss the Euro 2024 due to foot fracture

Nicolo Zaniolo was a part of Aston Villa squad who brought them back to the Champions League for the first time in the current format. However, a season full of hard work leads to nothing for the Italian in the national team.

It is confirmed that Zaniolo suffered a “microfracture” according to the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The 24-year old will return to his parent club Galatasaray as he will not take part in Aston Villa final league game against Crystal Palace.

Zaniolo was pulled off after only 15 minutes on the pitch when coming on as a substitute in a home game against Liverpool. With this condition, the Tuscany-born player will also miss the Euro 2024 next month. He posted an affirmative message on his Instagram after being diagnosed with the injury.

“Thank you for your support during these hours, ‘Villans’ and the many Italian and Turkish fans,” he wrote. “I can’t wait to get back on the field stronger than before!

“Unfortunately I will have to give up my dream of representing my Nation in a great competition. But that day will come, I’m sure of it and it will be beautiful! Forza Azzurri!”

During his loaning spell with Aston Villa, Zaniolo played in 40 appearances with 25 of them being in the league. He scored two goals in the Premier League and one for the Conference League.

Aston Villa returned into the top-tier of European competition in 1983. It is the club’s second time to finish at the top four since 1996 in the current Premier League format.
