Roberto De Zerbi has been linked with Liverpool

Revealed: Release Clause of Liverpool target Roberto De Zerbi

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed the release clause amount of manager Roberto De Zerbi, who has been linked with the Liverpool job.

Roberto De Zerbi to Liverpool?

De Zerbi currently manages Brighton & Hove Albion and has been brilliant with them since his appointment early in the 2022-23 season. He led them to UEFA Europa League qualification for the first time in the club’s history.

Brighton have faltered this year though, having had to deal with multiple competitions and injury issues. They are ninth in the Premier League standings and were eliminated from the Europa League in the Round of 16 by AS Roma.

Despite their struggles, manager Roberto De Zerbi has been linked with a move to Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp announced in January that he is set to leave the Reds in the summer and the club are in the hunt for a replacement.

As per Fabrizio Romano, De Zerbi’s contract with Brighton, which expires in 2026, has a release clause worth £12-13 million.

It is only valid this summer, which means Liverpool will have to act quickly if they are to sign him. The Reds have already been dealt a blow in their managerial hunt after Xabi Alonso announced that he will stay at Bayer Leverkusen.

Barcelona and Bayern Munich have also been linked with a move for De Zerbi, with Xavi Hernandez and Thomas Tuchel set to leave in the summer as well.

Roberto De Zerbi speaks about his future at Brighton amid Liverpool links

The Italian manager was recently asked about his future and potential contract extension at Brighton.

“I have another two years on my contract,” De Zerbi answered. “To work next season at Brighton, I don’t need to extend. At the moment, we finished the discussion about contracts but not because I have decided yet to leave.

“My focus is on Brighton this season and the next season but before we start the next season I would like to speak and listen to the plan for the team – it is a serious thing. I want to know the target and what we are playing for. I have already spoken to Tony [Bloom, the owner] and in the future we will talk again about the plan for next season and then we will find a solution but both the club and myself need to be happy,” he added.

De Zerbi has managed Brighton for 80 games across competitions, winning 37, losing 26 and drawing 17. He most recently lost 2-1 against Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday, March 31.
