Ronald Araujo

Ronald Araujo Transfer: Xavi Hernandez asserts that the defender is staying at Barcelona

While Real Madrid have now officially lifted the La Liga title, Barcelona were still in the race until a few gameweeks ago when the Catalan giants let their chances slip away. That came after a 4-2 loss to Girona which was far from a shocking defeat especially given the way Girona have played. Not only that, combined with the 3-2 loss to Real Madrid in April, it only hurt Barcelona’s chances at the title.

But the aftermath of the Girona loss saw reports indicate that nobody at the Spotify Camp Nou was safe including Xavi Hernandez with the club’s board looking to change things up. That included selling players as well with defender Ronald Araujo reportedly at the top of that list. The 25-year-old is considered to be the best center-back at the club but has struggled with injuries.

Yet despite his injury issues, the defender has been linked with a move away amidst interest from England, Italy and even France with PSG reportedly considering a move. However, despite all the interest, Xavi has refuted any rumours that Araujo will leave the club. The Spaniard revealed that he has spoken to the defender and that the 25-year-old is happy at Barcelona, and not looking to leave.

“We were fine but there was fatigue. Araujo is still injured and tomorrow we will decide, there will be one per line. Gündogan will be unavailable through suspension. Ronald knows what I think, today I have talked to him, in a sincere way and he knows what I want and hope for his future. He is happy here,” Xavi said, reported Barca Universal.
