Russian model Svetlana Alekseeva trolled for supporting Cristiano Ronaldo after Al Nassr’s Saudi Super Cup defeat

Cristiano Ronaldo and Al Nassr’s woes against Saudi Pro League rivals Al Hilal continued as they fell to their third defeat of the season against them. Having lost once in the league and once in the Riyadh Season Cup, they have now lost three in a row.

Ronaldo was also sent off in the 86th minute of the game following his multiple elbow strikes to Ali Albulayhi, who was also shown a yellow for time-wasting. However, he received unconditional support from an unlikely source in Russian model Svetlana Alekseeva.

Cristiano Ronaldo receives support from Alekseeva

Alekseeva is a well-known Russian model who displays her passion for football on her social media and also attends several games. Having witnessed Al Ittihad take on Al Wehda earlier in the same day, she set off to watch the Riyadh derby as Al Hilal and Al Nassr prepared to lock horns.

There was an incident midway through the contest which Alekseeva believes should have been a penalty. Cristiano Ronaldo was tightly marked by Al Hilal defender Yasser Al-Shahrani and was brought down. No penalty was given by the referee and the game went on. However, Alekseeva took to Instagram to express her disbelief. Her caption read:

“Ronaldo gets robbed again. How’s that not a penalty? Al Nassr lost today against Al Hilal but we will take our revenge in the Saudi Cup.”

However, reactions from some of Cristiano Ronaldo’s fans were not accepting of her opinion.

What did Ronaldo’s fans respond with?

While Svetlana Alekseeva’s comments and opinions about Cristiano Ronaldo sounded like any normal football fan, the player’s fans took offense to her post. Some even took to the comments to voice their view on the matter.

One said, “Don’t you know football?”, implying the lack of contact between the two players as Shahrani’s tackle was fairly clean.

Another fan added, “As a Ronaldo fan, that’s not a penalty.”

A third fan spared Alekseeva but aimed a cheeky dig at Cristiano Ronaldo, saying “Diving failed.”

Finally, a fourth fan offered sarcastic condolences and also a ‘solution’ to the problem. They said, “Sorry @laneksa7, but it’s not a penalty. I feel bad for you, honey, for choosing Ronaldo. You should be a Messi fan!”

While each had their views, it seems unlikely anyone would change their favourite player just because of some online backlash.
