FC Barcelona’s Sergi Roberto to MLS remains a speculated transfer as Xavi’s departure might shake up things at the La Liga club

The Barcelona Captain Sergi Roberto has been linked with a potential transfer move to Major League Soccer (MLS). Earlier the Barca midfielder reportedly wasn’t keen on a Saudi Pro League transfer as he refused to entertain such offers. However, Sergi Roberto to MLS might yet work out in the approaching summer transfer window.

Sergi Roberto remains in contention for a MLS move

It has been termed that with the current Barcelona manager Xavi (Xavier Hernandez) set to leave the club after the ongoing La Liga season, the future of certain players from Barca’s first team hangs up in the air. Recent reports suggested that one of those players could be Barcelona’s central midfielder and captain Sergi Roberto himself.

Per Mundo Deporivo, certain representatives from the USA’s top-tier football league MLS are still waiting for Roberto’s final decision. Also, the 32-year-old player is amidst discussions regarding a new contract with his La Liga club. The current contract of Sergi Roberto with FC Barcelona expires in June 2024.

With former Barcelona players, like Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez currently the big names playing in the MLS, it can be inferred that the American league does promise to be a happy hunting ground for players probably coming towards the later stages of their careers. All in all, it can be depicted that Barca captain Sergi Roberto could make a switch to the MLS if he considers that he doesn’t wish to continue at the Spanish club.

Sergi Roberto’s for FC Barcelona in the 2023-2024 La Liga season so far

Sergi Roberto had made seven appearances for Barcelona in the ongoing Spanish top-flight football season. The central midfielder has managed to chip in with three goals and one assist in these outings for the club. Apart from playing in the La Liga matches he has made a total of nine appearances for his team including all the other domestic and international club competitions in this season so far.
