As the exciting 2023–24 season comes to an end, clubs will soon be focusing on what looks to be a hectic summer of transfers in 2024. Let’s have a look at the crucial dates ahead of the start of this summer’s transfer window.

When does the summer transfer window 2024 open & close?

On Friday, June 14, the day Scotland plays host Germany in the European Championships, the Premier League and EFL transfer window officially opens.

The transfer window will close on August 30 at 11 pm UK time. This change aligns with major European leagues.

Deadline Day has been moved up by the Premier League in order to maintain parity with the other major European leagues. After consulting with the leagues in England, Germany, Italy, Spain, and France, the closing dates were decided upon.

When does the 2024/25 season start?

The window will be open throughout the first two weeks of the Premier League season, which starts on August 17. On May 25, 2025, the last round of games will take played.

The EFL season begins earlier on the weekend of August 10/11.

Can clubs sign players outside the transfer window?

Although transfers are frequently announced before the window starts, players cannot register to play for their new team until the window opens.

Meanwhile, free agents can sign at any time. They are not restricted by the transfer window as they are not contracted to another club.

When will the 2025 winter transfer window open?

The 2025 winter transfer window will open on New Year’s Day. It will close on February 3 at 11 pm. This timing is consistent across the Premier League, EFL, and major European leagues.
