Sven Botman

“It’s his career he’s risking” – Newcastle manager Eddie howe makes shocking revelation on Sven Botman’s injury

Newcastle United have to be without Sven Botman for the next six to nine months due to an ACL injury. The Dutch defender will undergo a surgery to heal the issue, which puts him out of the squad until Christmas.

When Newcastle lost to Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter final, Botman was subbed off at the 83rd minute. Leaving him no choice but to undergo the under-the-knife treatment to fix the problem.

Sven Botman refused to undergo a surgery initially

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has admitted that Botman initially rejected the surgery offer on his previous injury period. The 24-year old just returned from a three-month off due to a knee injury this January.

Speaking to TalkSport, Howe said that he left the decision to Botman whether he would take the surgery opportunity. However, the former Bournemouth gaffer admitted that it was a career-risking decision to refuse serious treatment when having a bad injury.

“It’s down to him,” Howe said. “It’s his body, and it’s his career he’s risking. I know he’s an employee of Newcastle, who pay him a lot of money, but ultimately, it is him.

“It’s his decision to have surgery, which is always a big call, no matter what that surgery is.

“I am very surprised he carried on, but it is his decision.”

Ray Houghton also shared his thoughts on the Newcastle united defender

Former Ireland midfielder Ray Houghton also shared his thoughts regarding Botman’s situation. He admitted that there was nothing people could do, saying that it was the player’s decision to do whatever he should to his body.

“It was a gamble either way, and he’s decided to go the route he did, and it didn’t quite work out,” Houghton said. “Now, he’s going to lose out, as are the Newcastle fans, because he’s been such an integral part of their team, so he’s going to be a big loss.”
