Summary

Thiago Alcantara has departed Hansi Flick's coaching staff at Barcelona after a brief role assisting the new manager. The former Barcelona midfielder, who recently retired, had joined Flick's team to help with the transition due to his club ties and language skills. He has been replaced by Arnau Blanco, previously the U16A coach. Thiago, a La Masia graduate, had played 101 games for Barcelona before his return. His exit follows the completion of his coaching internship under Flick, who lacks fluency in Spanish or English.

Thiago Alcantara is no longer part of Hansi Flick’s coaching staff after a short stint with Barcelona. The former Barcelona midfielder did his internship under Hansi Flick to obtain his coaching license. He joined due to his deep connection with Barcelona; having come through the ranks of La Masia and making 101 appearances for the first team, he was the ideal candidate to help the German manager settle into his new surroundings.

The club, in a statement, said, “Arnau Blanco, until now the coach of the FC Barcelona U16A team, joins Hansi Flick’s coaching team in place of Thiago Alcántara, who today, Friday, August 16, has his last day with the squad.”

The 33-year-old returned to the Catalan giants after announcing his retirement from professional football and leaving Liverpool as a free agent. He was appointed by the Blaugrana as Hansi Flick does not speak fluent Spanish or English, which is why he could play a crucial role in easing this transition.
