Tottenham vs Burnley Match Preview
Tottenham vs Burnley will take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League on May 11 as the fifth-placed side gear up to host the team in 19th.
The hosts will enter this game on the back of a dismal run of form. They have won just twice in their last eight games across competitions, drawing once, and losing five games in this span. This run of form has all but ended their hopes of a top-four finish this season as Spurs will only have pride to play for. They have conceded a worrying 14 goals in their last five league games, scoring just seven in return. They were smashed 4-2 by Liverpool in their last game and will look to do better.
The visitors, on the other hand, enter this game in a much better form than Spurs. The Clarets have lost just twice in their last eight games across competitions, securing two wins and four draws in that phase. While this has not saved them from inevitable relegation, Burnley can hold their heads high for finishing the season strong. They have conceded eight goals in their last five games and have scored seven. Having lost 4-1 to Newcastle United last time, they were looking to improve as well.
On that note, let’s take a look at the team news coming out of both camps.
Team News
Tottenham
Manager Ange Postecoglou’s injury woes continue as he is yet to have a fully fit squad to work with. Long-term absentees Manor Solomon (meniscus), Ryan Sessegnon (hamstring) and Fraser Forster (ankle) have been out for lengthy spells and are unlikely to return before the season ends.
However, Spurs have lost a few more key players to injuries in recent weeks, leading to a slump in form. Destiny Udogie (hamstring), Timo Werner (thigh) and Ben Davies (calf) are also likely to miss the next game against Burnley.
Burnley
Clarets boss Vincent Kompany will be without a few key players as well. Long-term absentees Luca Koleosho (knee), Jordan Beyer (hamstring) and Ameen Al-Dakhil (muscle) are likely to miss the next game, as well as the remaining Premier League fixtures.
Aaron Ramsey is also doubtful for the next game, and could be joined by defender Maxime Esteve, who came off injured in Burnley’s last game.
Predicted Lineups
Tottenham
No new faces are expected to be fit before their next game so Postecoglou will field the same lineup.
Predicted XI: Guglielmo Vicario (GK); Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Emerson Royal; Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr, Rodrigo Bentancur; Dejan Kulusevski, Heung-min Son (C), Brennan Johnson.
Burnley
Kompany, too, will retain his lineup from the defeat against Newcastle.
Predicted XI: Arijanet Muric (GK); Lorenz Assignon, Dara O’Shea, Hjalmar Ekdal, Vitinho; Josh Cullen, Sander Berge; Wilson Odobert, Josh Brownhill (C), Jacob Bruun Larsen; Lyle Foster.
Tottenham vs Burnley Head-to-Head Record
As one would expect just by looking at these two teams, Tottenham lead the recent head-to-head record. They have won four of the last five meetings against Burnley, who have won just once.
Last 5 Games
- Tottenham 1-0 Burnley
- Burnley 2-5 Tottenham
- Tottenham 1-0 Burnley
- Burnley 1-0 Tottenham
- Burnley 0-1 Tottenham
Prediction
Considering the recent history between these two teams, and the fact that Tottenham play at home, they are the clear favourites to win this game. However, having lost four games on the bounce, they will be low on confidence and could struggle if they concede first. Neither side also have much to play for, which will give additional freedom to players.
Prediction: Tottenham 2-2 Burnley.
Betting Tips & Odds
Both teams have scored in a whopping seven of Burnley’s last eight games, while the same has happened in three of Spurs’ last five, as well as in one of the last five meetings between these two teams. While the signals are mixed, Burnley can be expected to get on the scoresheet against an error-prone Spurs team.
