Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr subject to alleged racist chants from Barca & Atleti fans; Los Blancos file complaint

Real Madrid has filed an official complaint with the authorities after Vinicius Junior was subject to alleged racist chants from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid fans.

Earlier this week, Vinicius also called on UEFA to punish Atletico Madrid for their fans’ alleged racist chanting prior to the match against Inter Milan.

Real Madrid take action against Vinicius Junior racist abuse

Real Madrid filed a complaint with the state prosecutor’s office of Spain regarding hate and discriminatory offences directed at Viniciur Junior.

The statement they released read:

“Real Madrid calls on Prosecutors to request the recordings available from both locations, in order to identify the perpetrators of the abuse.

“Real Madrid condemns these violent attacks of racism, discrimination and hate against our player Vinicius Junior, which have sadly been a recurrent and ongoing concern for some time.

“Our club will continue working hard to uphold the values of football and sport as a whole, and will remain steadfast in the fight for a zero-tolerance approach to the types of despicable incidents we have seen on multiple occasions in recent times.”

Vinicius Junior has unfortunately been subject to several racist remarks and chants during his time in Spain so far. However, the Brazilian has kept a strong demeanour in the face of adversity and has let his football do the talking.

Vini Jr. stats for Los Blancos

Vinicius Junior came through the ranks at Flamengo before he was scouted and signed by Real Madrid in 2018 as an 18-year-old. Los Blancos paid an astounding €46 million to acquire the player in May 2017, but he signed a year later after turning 18.

Since joining, the talented winger has become a mainstay in the first team and has played a leading role in terms of carrying the goalscoring burden over the last couple of seasons. In 252 total appearances for Los Blancos, Vinicius has scored 75 goals and assisted 72 as he continues to build his legacy at the club.

This season, he has made 27 appearances across competitions and has already bagged 16 goals and eight assists. With at least 10 games more left to play, he will look to add to that tally before the season ends.
