Wojciech Szczesny ready to come out of retirement for Barcelona amid GK crisis

Szczesny has revealed that he is willing to return to football after hanging his boots for Barcelona as per reports.

An ESPN source claims a talk has happened between Barça and Szczesny’s team regarding the final details for a short-term contract until the end of the season, after Marc-André ter Stegen’s unexpected injury.

As per the details, the former Polish player will come in as a free agent to compete with along with second-choice keeper Iñaki Peña.

On Wednesday, Hansi Flick gave some clarity, on the move after Barcelona’s 1-0 win over Getafe the former Arsenal and Juventus keeper’s move.

“I only speak about players we have in the club and Iñaki is our No.1,” Flick said. “We have a clean sheet today and we are all happy about that. We have three points more. That is what counts.”

Additionally, Flick also said the club is only looking for options for a keeper with experience.

“We have Iñaki who is 25 and the other guys are only young players,” Flick added. “If something happened, we also need experience. This is why we are talking about that.

“We will see what happens.”

The La Liga rules align with the needs of the league leaders allowing them to sign someone in retirement due to the severity of the injury suffered by the German.

Szczesny shared his thoughts on the move to Diario Sport

“I have a lot of respect for Barça’s history,”

“They are one of the best clubs in the world and I understand the difficult situation they are in after the injury to Ter Stegen”.

“I think it would be disrespectful to not consider the option.”

So will the former Juventus star return as a knight in shining armour for Barcelona? Let’s wait and see for the story to unfold
