Brentford F.C. are one of the clubs that proudly boasts its history and dominance over many decades in the English Football League. Brentford Football Club were established in 1889, and have been boasting its dominance for over 135 years. Despite being one of the biggest clubs in the English Football League, they have a poor record in the finals. Since their establishment, the club have been relegated many times in Brentford history, including once they were relegated to the fourth division. Despite delivering poor performances in the finals, Brentford FC have always secured the top spot. As they are currently competing in the Premier League, they finished the 2024-25 season in the Premier League, being 10th place among 20. Under their current manager, Keith Andrews, they have finally been able to rebuild their team. Brentford F.C. is famously known as The Bees because of their crest.

Brentford History – Founding, Growth & Milestones

In 1889, the town of Brentford, Middlesex, was home to Brentford FC's cricket club, and the founders of the cricket club also tried to form a football and a rugby team a couple of times, but they faced massive failure. However, this time the Brentford Football Club were established, after a meeting with the Oxford & Cambridge pub, and by the voting they decided to form the Brentford FC and they would play in the first division of English Football. On October 26, 1889, Brentford FC played its first football match in Brentford history. Brentford FC faced Kew, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

In May 1920, after the formation of the English Football League, which is now famously known as the second division of English football, Brentford FC was included to compete in the league. The Bees signed 11 new players to compete. Brentford Football Club's first match were against Exeter City, the match ended in a 3-0 score line. Brentford F.C. finished the league in 21st place, and they were on the verge of relegation, but again, they secured a spot in the first division by voting.

Brentford FC were relegated to the fourth tier in 1998 and won promotion as champions in the 1998–99 campaign. Brentford Football Club were relegated in 2007 and won promotion as champions of League Two in 2008–09 and then were promoted out of League One in 2013–14. However, in 1954, Brentford FC were relegated to the third division of English football after spending 21 years in the first tier.

In their first season in the second tier since 1993, Brentford Football Club finished 5th but lost to Middlesbrough in the play-off semi-finals. Under Dean Smith, Brentford FC became an established Championship side. After Smith, Thomas Frank, took Brentford F.C. to the 2020 Championship play-off final after finishing third in the league, but lost 2–1 to West London rivals Fulham. After dominating the lower tier, they came back in the top tier after 74 years. Frank guided his side to 13th, 9th, 16th, and 10th-placed finishes in Brentford FC's first four Premier League campaigns.

Brentford trophies cabinet have several glories, such as one Second Division (now Championship) title, two Third Division (now League One) titles, and three Fourth Division (now League Two) titles. They also achieved promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history in the 2020-2021 season.
