Abhishek Porel Case: 23 Year Old IPL Star Arrested by Calcutta Police, Here's WHY

The Calcutta High Court has directed West Bengal Police to arrest Bengal and Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter Abhishek Porel in connection with a rape case filed against him by a medical student. The court also ordered the immediate arrest of the second accused and instructed investigators to seize the electronic devices of both individuals, including mobile phones, laptops, and other digital equipment, for forensic analysis.

The Abhishek Porel news has taken fans by surprise as the complaint alleges that Porel entered into a relationship with the woman by assuring her that he would marry her. She further claimed that after refusing to fulfil that promise, he allegedly threatened and blackmailed her using her private photographs.

The FIR, registered at Magra Police Station, includes serious non-bailable offences. During the hearing, the High Court expressed concern over the lack of prompt police action despite the seriousness of the allegations. The court noted that immediate steps were necessary to preserve crucial digital evidence and ensure that the investigation was carried out without interference.

Porel, who has represented Bengal in domestic cricket and Delhi Capitals in the biggest cricket league in the world, the Indian Premier League, has previously denied all allegations, calling them baseless. According to the Abhishek Porel rape case complaint, the medical student alleged that the accused sexually exploited her after winning her trust by claiming to be in a romantic relationship with her.

She also accused them of threatening to upload her private photographs online in an attempt to blackmail her. Her legal counsel urged the High Court to immediately confiscate the accused's electronic devices, alleging that the two men had similarly blackmailed several other women using their private photographs.

During the hearing, the police informed the High Court that efforts to arrest the accused were in progress. After considering the submissions, the court directed the authorities to file a detailed status report outlining the action taken to execute the arrests. The matter has now been listed for its next hearing on August 11.
