Babar Azam Becomes World No. 1 T20 Batsman; Surpasses Virat Kohli & Chris Gayle

Pakistan's star batter Babar Azam has created a new world record during the second T20I against South Africa in Lahore. During the match, Babar became the highest run-getter in T20 international cricket, thus creating another milestone to his name.

As a result, Babar Azam surpassed some of the best T20 batsmen in the world, like Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, and Rohit Sharma. Before him, former India captain Rohit Sharma was the highest run-getter in T20Is. However, Babar is the new record-holder now for the world no 1 T20 batsman, surpassing Rohit Sharma's score of 4231.

Babar needed less than 10 runs to achieve this milestone before the start of this series. He got out for a duck in the first T20I, leaving his fans disappointed. However, the star Pakistan batsman achieved the world record in the second match when he scored an unbeaten 11 in Pakistan's emphatic win over the Proteas.

In the third match, Babar was on fire and showed why he is rated among the best T20 batsmen in the world. He roared back into form with a knock that got the crowd at the Gaddafi Stadium, one of the renowned cricket stadiums in Pakistan, on his feet. It was a knock that reminded the world of his prowess that had been missing from some time now.

Babar Azam's Series-Winning Knock in 3rd T20I

In the decider of the series, Pakistan were right on money in both batting and bowling departments. The bowlers restricted South Africa to a below-par score of 139-9 in 20 overs. New ODI captain Shaheen Shah Afridi led the way with a fine spell of 3-26 while Faheem Ashraf and debutant Usman Tariq picked up two wickets apiece.

However, the job was half done and Babar made sure that Pakistan reach the target without much trouble. Despite losing Saim Ayub early, Sahibzada Farhan and Babar Azam put up an important partnership. Farhan got out but Babar continued and formed a match-winning partnership with the captain Salman Ali Agha.

Babar timed the ball to perfection during his knock and smashed three fours in a row to reach his half-century. He finally got out in the final stages but had already put his team in a position of strength. Pakistan lost six wickets on the way to the target but reached the target with one over to spare. Babar Azam T20 record was cherry on the cake for all the spectators inside the stadium. Corbin Bosch and Lizaad Williams picked up two wickets each for the tourists.

It was a much needed win for the Men in Green as they had been going through a lean patch for quite some time now. After winning the tri-series played against Bangladesh and Afghanistan, Pakistan reached the Asia Cup final in a dramatic fashion. However, they lost the summit clash to their arch-rivals, India. Both Pakistan and South Africa will now play an ODI series, which is set to begin on November 4 in Faisalabad.
