The domestic T20 leagues in India have been increasing with every passing year with almost all the state-run cricket associations starting their own 20-over tournaments. However, the recent fixing allegations have raised questions on their organisation and structure.

Recently, there was an incident in the Tamil Nadu Premier League that saw an all-rounder getting banned from the entire season. The player, who made his Ranji Trophy debut in 2025-26 season, was fined INR 1 lakh as well.

This was because he brought an undeclared smartphone to the Players and Match Official Area (PMOA), which prohibits such items. Days after the TNPL match fixing controversy, the BCCI's Anti-Corruption and Security unit is into action.

Why BCCI is Taking Action on State Run T20 Leagues?

The recent speculations of match-fixing in the Tamil Nadu Premier League has prompted the Board of Control for Cricket in India to take severe action. BCCI action on match fixing is not just on the TNPL but also in the other state-run-T20 leagues in India.

According to Sports Tak, BCCI's ACSU will take an action against all the domestic T20 leagues run by state associations if they are found violating the Code of Conduct. The report also claims that the board has found several bookies and suspicious elements to be in contact with the players and team owners.

“The ACSU has found increasing instances of bookies and suspicious persons getting in touch with the players, team owners, managers, which is against the code of conduct and rules governing the game. It is the first time that ACSU is covering all matches at state leagues, unlike previously when only Test matches, IPL and other main games were covered thoroughly,” the report claims as per The Indian Express.

The ACSU is already in place for the IPL, international, and domestic matches. However, the BCCI is determined to put it in place for the state-run T20 leagues as well. This has come as a great decision by the richest cricket board in the world.

Other Match Fixing Incidents

The speculations of match fixing in state T20 leagues is not just in the TNPL. According to the reports, six players have been caught using smartphones in these leagues, thus violating the BCCI anti corruption rules.

The BCCI's ACSU that the bookies might contact the team owners in these leagues. Hence, they are closely tracking all the possibilitites and won't leave spare them for any punishment if found guilty.

The state-run leagues like TNPL, Delhi Premier League, UP T20 League have produced some of the best batsmen in India over the years. These leagues give the players a platform through which they can get picked in the IPL.
