CAB Joint Secretary Suspended

The last few weeks have been quite dramatic in the cricket world. There are two high-profile controversies that have gained attention from the fans and the media recently. India's former captain MS Dhoni had filed a defamation suit against ZEE Media Corporation, journalist Sudhir Chaudhary, retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer G Sampath Kumar, and News Nation Network for dragging his name in the Indian Premier League (IPL) betting scam. Dhoni demanded INR 100 crores in damages. However, after a delay of 11 years, the Madras Court has finally given the dates for the trial to begin. The court will appoint an advocate commissioner to record Dhoni's testimony between October 20 and December 10, 2025.

The other case happened in England when the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) imposed a five-year ban on Moghees Ahmed, the Pakistani cricket agent. He has worked with some of the best cricketers in the world, including Misbah-ul-Haq, Saeed Ajmal, and Naseem Shah. The agent has breached ECB's anti-corruption policy by offering money to influence county cricket team selections. After a thorough investigation, the ECB banned him. Amidst these, another controversy has come up in India where the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) is involved, ahead of the domestic season.

CAB Joint Secretary Suspended Amid Financial Misconduct Allegations

In a recent incident, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has issued a suspension of its joint secretary, Debabrata Das, as he is accused of financial misconduct. For the next six months, CAB joint secretary Mr. Das will not be involved in any activities related to the CAB. The Association will have a thorough investigation into the matter and will look into the financial aspects of the CAB joint secretary suspended case in detail . As per reports, Mr. Das was found guilty of taking money from people, promising them to secure a place in the Bengal teams or CAB-affiliated clubs.

Moreover, the joint secretary has also used the association's finances for the Town Club players' food bills and the CAB's canteen expenditure. Apart from this, he also pressured the players to play for Town Club in exchange for Bengal team selection in the future. Since Town Club was chaired by Debabrata Das, the CAB has decided to stop the funding for the time being. The CAB secretary's financial misconduct is all over the internet, and it is most likely to hamper his future as well. Well, this isn't the first time the joint secretary has done something controversial. A few years back, he had an argument with former India wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha. This is the reason why Saha moved to Tripura later on.

Why did the ECB ban Pakistani agent, Moghees Ahmed?

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had monitored the actions of the prominent agent, Moghees Ahmed, and has banned him due to corruption. As per reports, he made a corrupt approach to the head coach of a county, and as a result, the news came out, and the agent will have to serve the ban. "Moghees Ahmed sought to engage a professional county coach in a corrupt scheme which would have had serious consequences for the integrity of cricket in England and Wales and beyond," said Chris Haward, the director of the Cricket Regulator, in a statement. The damage to Pakistan's reputation, however, is irreparable, especially considering that they are one of the best cricket teams in the world.

The agent is accused of breaching four charges under the ECB's anti-corruption code. The Board has made it clear that he will not be eligible to work from March 26, 2025. For the first 30 months, he will have to serve the entire ban, and the next 30 months will be suspended on condition of no further offences and the completion of an anti-corruption education programme. As per ESPN, Ahmed came forward to deny all the allegations against him and also rejected the ECB's decision. The agent will go through legal ways to fight against the ECB.
