However, ZC has now confirmed about Walsh's appointment as the Zimbabwe new bowling coach. The decision is a positive step that aims to nurture the young fast bowlers in a country that has produced some of the best cricketers in the world.
Courtney Walsh Becomes Zimbabwe Bowling Coach
Courtney Walsh served as Zimbabwe's bowling coach in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 that was jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. He served the team on a temporary basis at that time.
However, ZC is pleased with his work and has now decided to keep him in the coaching set-up on a permanent role. Interestingly, Zimbabwe produced memorable performances in the T20 World Cup earlier this year as they defeated much stronger teams like Australia and Sri Lanka.
The win against Australia was particularly massive given their huge stature in ICC tournaments. That result ensured Australia's early exit from the tournament as Zimbabwe progressed to the next round.
Walsh is regarded as one of the best bowlers in the world. He was the first player to take 500 wickets in Test cricket. Alongside being a legendary bowler, he has a good amount of coaching experience as well.
Walsh was Bangladesh's bowling coach from 2016 to 2019 ODI World Cup. During this tenure, he also stepped in as the team's interim head coach in the Nidahas Trophy 2018. He has also served as West Indies women head coach from 2020 to 2023.
Zimbabwe Retain Rest of the Coaching Staff
After a historic win over Bangladesh in the ZIM vs BAN one-off Test recently, Zimbabwe have retained their coaching staff with Justin Simmons the head coach. The batting coach will be Dion Ebrahim while Stuart Matsikenyeri will remain the fielding coach of the side.
After the ongoing series against Bangladesh, Zimbabwe will face the T20 World Cup champions India in a three-match series. Looking at the Indian batters' struggle in Ireland recently, Walsh will be eager to use this opportunity to upset the Men in Blue.
Despite winning the T20 World Cup earlier this year, India suffered a shocking series defeat to Ireland in a two-match T20I series. The batters struggled in both games to adapt to the conditions, something that Zimbabwe will try to exploit.
