The global governing body of Cricket, the International Cricket Council (ICC), has been overseeing the international tournaments and the rules of the game for a long time. It was originally known as the Imperial Cricket Conference; however, in 1965, the name was changed to International Cricket Conference. The governing body got its current name in the year 1987, the International Cricket Council. This was also the first time that the ICC chairperson role was established. ICC used to have presidents till 2016, but it has been abolished now, and the role of Chairperson has become the central figure of the governing body.

12. Zaheer Abbas
In 2015, Pakistan’s former cricketer Zaheer Abbas became the President of the ICC and served until 2016. He was the third cricketer to hold the position after Colin Cowdrey and Clyde Walcott. Due to his excellent cricket career, he was awarded the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.
11. Mustafa Kamal
Mustafa Kamal started his journey with the ICC as the vice-president of the Board and served for two years, from 2012 to 2014. After Isaac, Kamal went on to become the President of the governing body back in 2014. He served for just a year till 2015. He resigned from his post due to the protest against corruption in cricket.
10. Alan Isaac
Alan Isaac started his cricket career as a left-handed batter and represented Wellington at the age-group level. He captained the Wellington second team for three years and then had a 35-year career with KPMG in New Zealand, with roles including managing partner, chairman, and chief executive officer. Later, he became the president of New Zealand Cricket in 2008. Isaac became the successor of Pawar back in 2012 and was the ICC President for two years.
9. Sharad Pawar
Indian Politician Sharad Pawar was the ninth ICC President from 2010 to 2012. Later, he became the president of the Mumbai Cricket Association from October 2013 to January 2017. For his magnificent work, he was awarded the Padma
Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian honour of India, by the Indian government.
8. David Morgan
The eighth President of ICC was David Morgan, who ruled from 2008 to 2010. He was a British Cricket Administrator before holding the highest post in the ICC. Morgan became the chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board in October 2002 and served there for six years.
7. Ray Mali
After the sudden death of Percy Sonn, Ray Mali became the acting President of the ICC in 2007. He was the President of Cricket South Africa since 2003 (the first black person to hold the position) before becoming the ICC President. Later, he served until 2008. Moreover, Mali was a teacher by profession but then became a skilled administrator and a moderniser in South African cricket.
6. Percy Sonn
Percy Sonn was the sixth President of the ICC in July 2006 and was a South African lawyer. However, a year later, he passed away at the age of 57. Born in Cape Town, he was also the first African President at that time. Before becoming the ICC President, he was a public prosecutor, and as a legal adviser to the South African Police Service, and became a senior counsel, acting judge, and deputy director of public prosecutions.
5. Ehsan Mani
Ehsan Mani represented the Pakistan Cricket Board from 1986 to 1996. Later in the year, 2003, he was appointed as the fifth ICC chairman. He was a Chartered Accountant by profession, but has also played cricket during his college days.
4. Malcolm Gray
Malcolm Gray, who served as the chairman of the Australian Cricket Board from 1986 to 1989, was appointed as the fourth ICC chairman in 2000. He remained in the position till 2003.

3. Jagmohan Dalmiya
Jagmohan Dalmiya used to play cricket at the club level but couldn’t make it to the international level. He was appointed as the third ICC chairman in the year 1997 and played an important role in the growth of the cricket governing body. The ICC had only £16000 in its treasury when he joined; however, when his reign ended, the ICC had $15 million in its coffers.
2. Clyde Walcott
Sir Clyde Walcott also started his career as a cricketer, representing West Indies in international cricket. He appeared in 44 Test matches and scored 3798 runs at an outstanding average of 56.68, including 15 centuries. He retired in 1960 and was later appointed as the second chairman of the ICC in 1993. He was also the first non-English and non-white ICC chairman.
1. Colin Cowdrey

Colin Cowdrey started his career as a cricketer, representing England in international cricket. He played 114 Test matches and also became the first player to play 100 Test matches. In his 21-year Test career, Cowdrey scored 7624 runs at an impressive average of 44.06. The right–handed batter retired in 1975 and was later appointed as the first ICC chairman in 1989.

ICC Chairman List [2014 - Present]
India's N. Srinivasan was the first person from the Indian ICC Chairman list. He joined ICC back in 2014. Until 2025, there have been only five ICC Chairmen who belonged to different countries. Moreover, Shashank Manohar is the only Chairman from the list of ICC Chairman, who has served the longest in the International Cricket Council (ICC) from 2015 to 2020.

5. Jay Shah

The current ICC Chairman is Jay Shah, BCCI’s former Secretary. Before that, he was the President of the Asian Cricket Council and served from 2021 to 2024. He was appointed as the ICC Board Member Representative in November 2022. Later, he became the new ICC Chairman with unopposed votes.
4. Greg Barclay
The Canadian-New Zealand sports administrator, Greg Barclay, who comes in 4th in the ICC Chairman list, served as the ICC Chairman from 2020 to 2024. Before becoming ICC’s Chairman, he was the chair of the New Zealand Cricket from 2016 to 2020. Barclay claimed 11 out of 16 votes in the second round of voting, going past the other candidate, Imran Khwaja, and served the term till 30 November 2024.
3. Imran Khwaja
Pakistan’s Imran Khwaja became the interim Chairman of the ICC after succeeding Shashank Manohar. He was the Deputy Chair since 2017, and since the Board didn't have anyone else, he had to manage for a brief period of time. Currently, the Board has reappointed Imran Khwaja as Deputy Chair of the ICC, and his new tenure started on 1 December 2024.
2. Shashank Manohar
As per the ICC Chairman List, Shashank Manohar was the longest-serving Chairman of the ICC from 2015 till 2020. He served until 2017, and then a resolution was passed in which he was reinstated until a successor was found. Hence, he continued till 2020 and was then succeeded by Imram Khwaja.

N. Srinivasan was the Chairman of the ICC in 2014 and worked until 2015. Before that, he was the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC) from 2011 to 2013. Currently, he is the owner and managing director of the firm India Cements. He was also the owner of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
