Delhi Capitals to announce their captain for the 18th edition of Indian Premier League. Each team except DC has already named their captains for the upcoming season of IPL 2025. Axar Patel is the top contender for the leadership role.

The Franchise has considered KL Rahul for the leadership role, but he wanted to focus on his batting instead of taking the leadership role. As per the reports Axar Patel is expected to get this role. He played an important role in the victory of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. DC will be playing their first match against Lucknow Super Giants on March 24 at Visakhapatnam.

Axar could be Delhi Capitals Captain in IPL 2025

Axar Patel has been part of this team since 2019, Delhi Capitals acquired him for ₹5 crore in the auction. Since then Axar has performed consistently well for this franchise. He has been retained for ₹16.5 crore over star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant. Axar Patel has never been a full-time captain for any IPL franchise, however, he has led the Gujarat team in the domestic T-20 tournament Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

This 31-years-old all-rounder has been a utility player and played for only two franchises which shows that he has been retained regularly for his consistent performance. He has played 150 matches in which and scored 1653 runs with an average of 21.46 and also took 123 wickets. He has also been named as Vice Captain of the Indian team for the T-20 format.
