South Africa Suffer Massive Blow Ahead of Pakistan ODIs: Star Performer Ruled Out

South Africa Cricket Team have suffered a massive blow ahead of the three-match ODI series against the Pakistan National Cricket Team. Star batter Dewald Brevis has been ruled out of the series with an injury.

After the enthralling T20I series between Pakistan and South Africa, the two teams will be locking horns with each other in the three-match ODI series. The opening encounter will be played on Tuesday (November 4) in Faisalabad.

Dewald Brevis Injury: Massive Blow for South Africa

South Africa middle order batter, Dewald Brevis, has been ruled out of the series due to a low-grade shoulder muscle strain. The young batter sustained an injury during the third T20I against Pakistan, which took place at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday.

Brevis will now be undergoing rehabilitation in the Pakistan itself. The South Africa team management wants him to get fit by the time the Test series against India begins. The two teams will be locking horns with each other in the two-match series, beginning October 14 at the Eden Gardens, the oldest cricket stadium in India.

Cricket South Africa released an official statement, confirming Brevis’ injury. They confirmed that they will be announcing the replacement soon. The statement read:

“Momentum Multiply Titans batter Dewald Brevis has been ruled out of the three-match One-Day International series against Pakistan due to a low-grade shoulder muscle strain. He sustained the shoulder injury during the third T20 International at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday," CSA stated.

“Brevis will undergo rehabilitation with the Proteas Men’s medical team in Pakistan in preparation for the upcoming Test tour of India. His replacement for the ODI series will be announced in due course.” the statement further added.

Dewald Brevis's absence comes as a big blow as the Proteas are already battling their second-string side. The right-hander has been a consistent performer for the team in the white-ball format and this would be have been a great opportunity for him to seal his place in the ODIs. While he has been ruled out, Dewald Brevis replacement for this series is yet to be announced.

South Africa would be hoping that Brevis recovers before the India Test series. The talented right-hander is likely to become one of the best batsmen in the world in future. He would be key for the Proteas in the series as India is expected to go with the spin-heavy bowling attack. His aggressive nature against spinners will be key for the Proteas.

Brevis has played six ODIs for South Africa and has scored 110 runs with the highest score of 49. In the four Test matches, the right-hander has slammed 138 runs to go with two fifties. In the 15 T20Is, he has hammered 400 runs to go with one century and one fifty. He is seen as an all-format player for South Africa and has all the talent to become the next big thing.
