The Indian Cricket Team has reached Mumbai for the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2026. The Suryakumar Yadav-led side will be taking on England in the second semi-final of the tournament at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on March 5, Thursday.
Did Indian Players Break BCCI's No Family Rules Ahead of T20 World Cup Semi Final?

After a hard-fought win over West Indies in their must-win clash, the India will have a few days off before they begin their training. They arrived in Mumbai on Monday, March 2 and what unfolded at the airport caught the attention of many fans.
As the Indian side arrived at the Mumbai airport, captain Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Shivam Dube, who live in Mumbai, left the team and went to their homes in their personal cars instead of staying with the team.
Did Indian Players Break BCCI No Family Rules?
This raised the eyebrows of many fans who accused the trio of breaking the BCCI’s no family rules. As per the no family rule BCCI, which were reintroduced after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia, families aren’t allowed with players in major tournaments and overseas tours.
The policy is there for the ICC T20 World Cup as well, however, a few players have different routes. According to the guidelines, if players want to take their families along, they are free to make independent arrangements for their families which includes flight tickets and separate hotels at their own expense.
This has been seen with Hardik Pandya as well. The all-rounder has been travelling along with his girlfriend Mahieka Sharma throughout this tournament. While, the all-rounder travels in the team bus, he has made separate arrangements for his partner as she has been seen travelling in a different vehicle.
The same is the case now with Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube, two of the most dangerous batsmen in the world. With them having their homes in Mumbai, they opted to stay with families rather than staying in a team hotel. But this might change when India begins practice for the England clash.
Although there is no confirmation about Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Shivam Dube breaking the no family rule in T20 World Cup, with March 2 being the travel day, it is understood that the trio didn’t break any rule while staying with their families on that particular day.
Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel Stay with Families in Ahmedabad
Not only these players, but Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel also stayed with their respective families in Ahmedabad amid the T20 World Cup 2026. This happened during India’s first Super 8 game against South Africa.
After India lost the game, both Bumrah and Axar, who are among the best T20 bowlers and stay in Ahmedabad, went to their home and then came to the airport separately. Although there is no rule about a player staying with his family when a match is being played in the city where a player lives, players have been often seen spending time with their families.
